Karl Guegold, a personable "stay-at-home" dad from Ohio, has a slim lead going into the final round of the CITGO BASS Federation Championship presented by Busch Beer, which concludes Saturday afternoon on Lake Tuscaloosa.

The leaders credit a variety of factors for their success, but the common thread is awareness of fish behavior during this week's unusual weather.

"I backed out some into deeper water because the lake is falling and pulling the fish out from the shoreline," noted Gugeold.

But he and Shawver disagree about what the lake's residents might do next.

Gugeold believes the fish have spawned and are preparing to migrate back to deep water to assume their summertime behavior of schooling and chasing baitfish in open water, but Shawver thinks his bass will maintain their position for the final day.

Western angler Tom Schachten boated the largest bass - weighing 3 pounds, 10 ounces - of Friday's round.
